Our History

Founded in 1969, the Newtown Youth Basketball Association (NYBA) has been a cornerstone of youth sports in our community for over 50 years. What began as a small program with just a couple of teams has grown into a thriving organization serving hundreds of young athletes each year.

Our Mission

NYBA is dedicated to providing young athletes with opportunities to play basketball, learn about teamwork, and experience the joy of competition. We emphasize camaraderie and sportsmanship, helping shape not just skilled players, but well-rounded individuals.

Programs

We offer programs for children from kindergarten through high school, including:
- In-house recreational leagues
- Travel teams
- All-star games
- Championship tournaments

Our leagues are designed to accommodate players of all skill levels, ensuring every child has a chance to participate and grow.

Community Impact

With nearly 900 participants annually, NYBA has touched the lives of thousands of Newtown's youth over the past five decades. Many of our alumni have gone on to play at the high school and collegiate levels, including players who've competed for UConn, Harvard, and other prestigious programs.

Volunteer-Driven

NYBA is proud to be a volunteer-led organization. Our dedicated coaches, board members, and parent volunteers are the heart of our program, ensuring its success year after year.

NYBA is more than just a sports league. We're actively involved in the community through initiatives such as:
- Unified Sports® participation
- FAITH Food Pantry collections
- Annual Senior Citizen Appreciation Night
